One of the most comforting scriptures showing the unity, support and strength of brethren helping one another is found in Exodus 17:11-12;

"And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Am-a-lek prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun."

After the Israelites had tempted the Lord they immediately were drawn into battle with the Amaleks. Moses sent Joshua to fight the battle while He took Aaron and Hur with him to climb the top of the hill overlooking the battle. Moses held up his hands showing everyone the battle was the Lords. When his hands were raised up the Israelites would be winning the battle but when he would get tired and lower his hands the Amalek would be winning. This scripture says that His hands were heavy. Aaron and Hur brought a stone and Moses sat down upon it…Then Aaron got on one side of him and held up one of Moses arms. Hur got on the other side of Moses and held up his other arm. The wonderful thing that took place was that because of the support and encouragement of his brethren Moses arms were steady the whole day. Until the setting of the sun…

I could not help but think of this scripture when remembering the events of this past year. It was one year ago this week that I was so much in pain and had to be admitted to Davao Doctors Hospital. I was so close to death when I went into surgery the first time that they had to put me in ICU until I could stabilize so that I could be taken back to surgery. After surgery I once again returned to ICU. I then was taken to a private room Christmas Eve with private nurses so I could spend Christmas with my children in a private room.

The account of Moses, Aaron and Hur is special to me because I am even more aware now than before that all of you have been my Aaron and Hur. I know that the Lord answered the petitions of Gods people for me that God would give the Doctor’s guidance and wisdom in their care for me and Jesus would stay very close. I will forever be humbled by the experience last Christmas. I still have the numerous emails and letters you sent to me with words of encouragement.

The brethren and staff here also were such wonderful strength to me. They allowed me to rest and physically heal. I never imagined it would take a full year but it has. They were so patient when I was impatient because of the constant pain. When I was unable to pray, I know they did. When I could not even think of what I needed to be doing next, they did without disturbing me. When I could not embrace the children, they did.

More importantly you as well as they held up my hands the WHOLE DAY LONG until the going down of the SUN!

Thank you seems so very little to express what you have meant to me. I pray that the Lord will continue to guide us, direct our footsteps, and above all give us wisdom to minister this coming year to each other and His precious children.

Merry Christmas,
Mom Betty
